Steeped in Scottish golfing history

The world famous Muirfield is home to the ‘Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers’, and is steeped in Scottish golfing history. Muirfield is again an Old Tom Morris design, established in 1891 and rivals St Andrews in its traditions and heritage.

A quite outstanding Championship course, Muirfield has played host to numerous Open Championships and most recently the 2022 AIG Women’s Open. It is without question an internationally admired golfing challenge which consistently ranks amongst the leading courses in the world.

The golf course is distinctive in a number of respects. First, the unique layout -where the opening nine holes circle clockwise around the perimeter of the property, whereas the back nine run counter clockwise on an inner circuit. The proximity of the sea and the prevailing weather means that completely calm conditions are the exception. Second – a fair and balanced test of links golf where good shots are rewarded and landing areas are visible and relatively flat. Third, the distinguished roll of Champions speaks volumes for the quality and character of the golf course.

Blessed with a collection of superb golf holes

Muirfield is an eccentric but traditional golf links of the highest calibre. The fairways have that spongy seaside turf, there is some unbelievable bunkering, many of which are small and deep and there is thick, thick rough to contend with. The greens are relatively small and filled with borrows and nuances which make subtle and tricky to read.

Muirfield is simply an outstanding test of golf but more importantly, as the oldest golf club in the world, provides an unforgettable and privileged experience never to be surpassed or forgotten.
