A formidable test of golf

Only 40 minutes from the city lies Portmarnock Links – the Championship Old Course.

Situated on its own sandy peninsula almost two miles long, it’s a natural links course. With water on 3 sides, it’s a formidable test of golf – particularly when the wind blows.

Having hosted the Walker Cup and with a reputation for perfect – if fast – greens there is a whisper that it might be in line for the British Open in the future.

Portmarnock has the advantage of a second, newer course – one which has very recently been completely revamped.

The Portmarnock Hotel and Spa offers another 18 holes – now known as the Jameson Links. Named after the famous whisky maker who once owned his private golf course on the same track of land, the hotel came under new ownership who immediately embarked on upgrading the hotel, and importantly, the golf course. The result is just very special, and with its location, its older and highly acclaimed neighbour, The Jameson Links is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
