A tough challenge
Another ‘Open’ venue and revered as one of the most difficult and challenging courses on the Open rota. Located in Angus some 30 minutes from St Andrews, Carnoustie is generally regarded as the toughest of all Open venues but for those who know and understand the game of golf it is probably the fairest too.
Without doubt Carnoustie does have the toughest closing stretch of holes anywhere and those finishing the final four holes with no more than a bogey will be delighted with their play. Walter Hagan described Carnoustie as ‘a great big shaggy monster’ – famous for ‘Hogan’s Alley’ (hole 6), the ‘Spectacle bunkers’(hole14) and the ‘Barry’ burn (hole 16) it is revered as being one of the best tests of golf in the world. A par 70, with total yardage for the golf course varying from 5610 to 6945 yards.
